The best of COSRX Beauty

I was first introduced to the COSRX brand around October 2016 when I went to Korea for my 30th birthday #SeouloTrip. I’ve been hearing such rave reviews about this brand from famous K-beauty vloggers even before my Korea trip that I decided to hunt their products down when I got to Seoul. At that time, Olive Young (Philippines’ version of Watsons) was only carrying the One Step Pimple Clear Pads, which meant I had to go to an A.Land store for me to purchase their entire (well, almost) skincare line.

Fast forward to today (Apil 2017), and I can only say I’m extremely grateful that I took the time to seek this brand, and its products, out.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve had sensitive, combination skin (leaning towards oily), and I’ve always dealt with hormonal acne and acne scarring. Living in a humid and heavily polluted city was really a constant challenge for my skin, and I could not (for the life of me), find a way to get my skin under control. I’m not going to lie, I understand that there are others out there that have it worst than me in the skin department, but as a person that’s deeply conscious of her skin, believe me when I say I understand your plight – I truly do.

I’ve had the pleasure of really putting COSRX to the test over the last 6 months. I know what you’re thinking – “What took her so long to write this review then?” – well, like I said, I’m a person that’s deeply conscious of her skin. Over the course of 6 months, I’ve been trying out other products as well and suffice to say, it was really a period of trial and error. I had to drill down on the products that didn’t work, and kept the products that did work on my skincare routine. Looking at my skincare routine now, I see that most of it has been dominated by the COSRX brand, and I’m here to share with you why. Do keep in mind before reading further that these products work best when you get a lot of sleep/rest. As someone who’s very in tune with their skin, one thing I’ve come to realize is that your skin looks best when you’re healthy and well rested.

I’m gonna start off with my Top 5 favorites from COSRX, and work my way down:

The best of COSRX: My top 5!

The best of COSRX: My top 5!

1) COSRX Centella Blemish Cream

For me, more than acne itself, acne scars have been the bane of my existence. As I have a fair complexion, acne scars are just very visible on my skin and they standout like they thirst for attention. With COSRX’s Centella Blemish Cream, I have never seen a product fade my acne scars THAT quickly. I usually apply this at night and let my skin absorb the product as I sleep. Even on the first application, I can see a clear difference in my skin as soon as I woke up. Don’t be alarmed though if your skin isn’t absorbing it completely when you first apply, just let it sit on your skin while you sleep, and I promise you, it will work its magic. You can also apply this while you’re having breakouts and it will help significantly reduce the size of your flare ups.

2) COSRX AHA 7 Whitehead Power Liquid

Nothing quite beats COSRX’s AHA 7 Whitehead Power Liquid when it comes to treating emerging pimples.

I have never seen a product so effectively combat the start of a skin rebellion such as this one. Full-fledged pimples are a foreign concept to my skin now, since this was introduced to my routine. Again, since I’m very conscious of my skin, the moment I feel even the tiniest bump rising on the surface of my skin, I slap this thing on my face the very same night before I go to bed. As soon as I wake up, voila(!), disaster averted. Do note though that I don’t use this daily, as this is some jacked up, next level sorcery from COSRX. I only use this when the occasion calls for it.

Sneaky bonus favorite: if you use the COSRX AHA/BHA Clarifying Treatment Toner (which you CAN use daily) beforehand, it will only serve to increase the effectivity of this product further.

3) COSRX BHA Skin Returning A-Sol

For those with more complex skincare troubles, I highly suggest the BHA Skin Returning A-Sol from COSRX. The name pretty much says it all – it helps restore your skin to its former glory.

If you have recurring acne problems, including this in your daily skincare routine will work wonders. It’s basically a non-drying acne-treatment solution for sensitive skin that if you use on the regular, will help you manage your sebum, pores and dead skin cells in the long run. Something to note as well with COSRX products is that because they’re formulated with such good ingredients, and are incredibly effective, you only need to use pea size amounts on the troubled areas of your face, which means that even if you use this daily, the product will go a loooong way (therefore saving you more $$$).

4) COSRX Galactomyces 95 Whitening Power Essence

Weirdly, when Koreans say “Whitening”, they actually mean brightening – so don’t be alarmed when you see the word “Whitening” in their products, my sun-worshipping sisters. This is very true in the case of COSRX’s Galactomyces 95 Whitening Power Essence.

Now that I’ve kept the breakouts at bay, and my scars/blemishes are starting to fade (or have already faded), what about the rest of my face? This is where this product comes in. I find that this product just snaps my skin back to life, after suffering so badly from breakouts and scarring. To me, it acts like booster for my skin – plumping out my fine lines, providing it with much needed hydration and repairing the damaged areas of my skin caused by breakouts and scarring. More importantly, this works so well in tandem with the succeeding COSRX products (or non-COSRX products) in your routine, that it almost feels like it makes the good ingredients in your other products 3x better and more effective.

5) COSRX Acne Pimple Master Patch

It’s virtually impossible not to include this in my Top 5. It would be a crime if I didn’t. I can already hear the cries of outrage if I did somehow manage to leave this off the list – but I won’t, and with very good reason/s. Some of you might think that this pimple patch might be a bit gimmicky – just a way to temporarily cover your acne by slapping on this patch which doesn’t really do anything to heal/help your acne. If you’re planning to say more, I will stop you right there, missy.

This patch does NOT just cover up those hideous breakouts (I mean, come on, how much can it really cover up until people start realizing you have something glued on your face? It’s opaque for chrissakes).

This hydrocolloid patch essentially works to help treat breakouts by eliminating the bacteria festering inside the acne and breaks down any debris or gunk inside it as well. What’s also awesome about it is that it adheres so well to the skin – so much so that it stays on even when you sweat or shower. This means, it doesn’t stop working double time to flatten and heal your breakout, and before you know it, your acne is gone (or significantly less angry looking) by morning!

See the difference in my skin before and after knowing COSRX below. Also, I’m listing down other equally amazing COSRX products that you should consider purchasing:

6) COSRX AHA/BHA Clarifying Treatment Toner

I know I cheated a bit by sneaking this in earlier, but it can’t be helped. It really is a good toner filled with delicious ingredients for the skin, and it truly does a lot of the heavy legwork in terms of priming your skin for its next steps.

PRICE: P667 on StyleKorean, P690 on Althea, P657 on BeautyMNL

7) COSRX Aloe Soothing Sun Cream

Like the name suggests, it’s a great, soothing sun cream the helps protect your skin from the sun and doesn’t leave your face feeling heavy, greasy or clogged. It doesn’t leave a heavy white cast on the face too, which majority of the sun creams do. More importantly, it works well with makeup and doesn’t disturb your makeup as the day wears.

PRICE: P666 on BeautyMNL

8) COSRX Ultimate Nourishing Spa Mask

Containing 65% rice extract, this mask DEEPLY nourishes the skin and provides intense hydration. Use this overnight and you’ll find yourself waking up to a significantly brighter and healthier looking skin.

9) COSRX Salicylic Acid Exfoliating Cleanser

This is the perfect cleanser to kick off your night time skincare routine – especially if you’re in the early stages of a breakout. There have been occasions wherein this cleanser alone helped stopped an early breakout.

PRICE: P351 on StyleKorean, P375 on Althea

10) COSRX Low PH Good Morning Gel Cleanser

I highly recommend this as a morning cleanser for those of you with super sensitive skin. Its gentle ingredients work hard to make your skin supple and free of dirt and bacteria which causes breakouts.

PRICE: P600 on Althea, P540 on BeautyMNL

11) COSRX Honey Ceramide Eye Cream

This is a must try for those of you even remotely concerned about eye wrinkles and dark under eye circles. My eye area is a lot brighter these days and my fine lines are slowly disappearing thanks to this gem from COSRX.

PRICE: P1,050 on StyleKorean, P1,170 on BeautyMNL

12) COSRX Centella Blemish Ampoule

With Centella Asiatica Leaf Extract listed as its main ingredient, you know this is gonna do wonders for your sensitive and breakout prone skin. ICYMI, Centella Asiatica Leaf Extract is amazing at treating infections (a.k,a breakouts/acne), while hydrating your skin and boosting collagen production and promoting skin elasticity as well as minimizing your pores (gosh that was a mouthful!).

**IMPORTANT NOTE: Prices are a rough estimate based on USD->PHP conversion. Obviously, it’s more affordable to buy COSRX in Korea, but if you’re not visiting KR anytime soon (or know someone who will), I would personally recommend buying COSRX from www.stylekorean.com especially if you’re buying a lot of products (to make the shipping fee worth it) and if they have any ongoing promos/sales/free shipping codes going on. If you’re only buying a few items, I suggest taking a looksie at ph.althea.kr or www.beautymnl.com. Their products usually sell out fast so I would suggest checking their site daily if they’ve refreshed their inventory.**
